Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has donated over 300 50kg bags of mealie meal in Luapula Province.
Luapula Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Royd Chakaba has commended the Head of State for the donations made to the six Districts and Mission Hospitals in the Province.
Mr. Chakaba gave his commendation when the Edgar Chagwa Lungu Multipurpose Empowerment Cooperative (ECL MPEC) team led by Coordinator Martin Mukuka called on him at his office in Mansa.
Mr. Chakaba said that President Lungu’s gesture of donating mealie meal to hospitals will greatly supplement Government’s efforts to address the food crisis in the health institutions.
He said that the donation has an enormous impact on the health standards of the people of Luapula and all who go to seek medical attention in hospitals there.
Mr. Chakaba has further appealed to President Lungu to continue with the Programme so as to reach out to the hospitals that have not yet received in the remaining districts of the province.
And Chienge District Hospital Administrator Katota Mushinge, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues from the rest of the benefiting hospitals, thanked President Lungu for what he termed as a fatherly gesture of reaching out to the sick.
Mr. Mushinge said that the mealie meal donation is in good faith and it will go a long way in helping the hospitals to manage the feeding program. The Hospital Administrators hoped that the Head of State could continue with the feeding program through the ECL MPEC so as to enable the hospitals run effectively.
Meanwhile ECL MPEC team Coordinator Mr. Mukuka has paid a glowing tribute to the Luapula province health personnel for what he terms their commitment to serving God’s people.
He said that President Lungu is always encouraged by health personnel who serve local people with utmost passion and care.
Mr. Mukuka said that the Head of State intends to continue to supplement government’s efforts of providing food for people in hospitals as he has noted the need to do so.
And Mr. Mukuka further disclosed that President Lungu through intends to extend the feeding program to boarding schools in Luapula and the rest of the country.
The 300 bags of mealie meal were donated to Chienge District Hospital in Chienge, St. Paul’s Mission Hospital in Nchelenge, Mbereshi Mission Hospital in Mwansabombwe, Kawambwa District Hospital in Kawambwa, Mwense District Hospital in Mwense and Samfya District Hospital in Samfya, all of which got 50 bags each.
