COVID-19 UPDATE: HEALTH MINISTRY ATTRIBUTES LOW TESTING TO SHORTAGE OF KITS

The Ministry of Health says the ability to test more people for coronavirus is hampered by the lack of testing kits due to the global demand and lockdowns in most countries.
Ministry of Health national co-ordinator for pathology and laboratory services, Dr Aaron Lunda Shibemba said government plans to be testing more than 10,000 people everyday.
Dr Shibemba who was speaking during the Covid-19 media briefing in Lusaka said the plans will be realised once testing kits arrive in the country.
And Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya said 505 patients have been discharged in the last 24 hours and that 204 new cases out of 752 tests done in the last 24 hours.
He said the country has recorded two coronavirus-related deaths from patients who were suffering from hypertension and diabetes in Kasama and Lusaka.
Dr Chilufya said the ministry is in the process of developing an online application that will be used to give test results over the phone.
He appealed to people in rural areas to believe that the virus is not a hoax and can affect anyone.
Zambia has 10,831 cases, 9,942 recoveries, and 279 deaths since March 18 when the first two cases were announced. There are 610 active cases.
