The ministry of health has appealed to Zambians who may be contacts to known positive cases to get tested and at the same time says there are over a thousand Covid-19 samples that have not been cleared.
Health permanent secretary in charge of technical services during the routine Covid-19 update on Wednesday , Dr Kennedy Malama says Chinsali district in Muchinga province has 1,000 test samples that are yet to be cleared but has assured Zambians that the backlog will be cleared in a few days.
He appealed to citizens to maintain health guidelines such as washing hands, wearing masks when in public and sanitizing and says three million Zambians are at risk of contracting the virus due to age and underlying illnesses.
He says 68 new cases out of 847 tests done from 12 districts have tested positive.
Dr Malama says two deaths, one brough-in-dead in Lusaka and one patient in Livingstone who had underlying conditions.
He says 279 patients have been discharged from isolation centres in the last 24 hours.
There are currently 34 patients admitted to various isolation centres in country where 10 on oxygen therapy.
Dr Malama repeated his call for citizens to maintain health guidelines such as washing hands, wearing masks, sanitizing and avoiding non-essential travel.
