President Hakainde Hichilema has appointed Supreme Court judge Mumba Malila
as Chief Justice of Zambia to replace late Justice Irene Mambilima who passed
away this year.

The appointment of Justice Malila is subject to ratification by the National
Assembly of Zambia.

Dr Malila once served as Attorney General of Zambia during the reign of Former
President Micheal Sata.

Also appointed is Mr. Vincent Malambo, state counsel as chairperson for the
Judicial Complaints Commission to replace William Nyirenda, State Counsel,
whose contract has been terminated.

The Head of State has also made changes to the Judicial Services Commission by
replacing Justice Mathew Ngulube with Mr. Mwikisa Mukande, State Counsel as
Commission chairman.

Meanwhile, the appointment of Dr. Malila has been welcomed by opposition
Socialist Party Leader Dr. Fred M’membe who said that the appointment of Mr.
Malila as Chief Justice is well deserved while Former Attorney General Musa
Mwenye added that Justice Malila is exactly what this country needs in that office
at this time.
