NYAU DANCER SENTENCED TO DEATH BY HANGING – Grace Lungu

The Chipata High Court has sentenced a 26-year-old man of Chief Chikuwe’s area in Kasenengwa District, who was the overseer at a nyau dancer’s shrine, locally known as dambwe at Vwala village to death for murder.

The other four persons, who were jointly charged with Chisoni Phiri, have been acquitted.Facts are that Chipateni Soko of Vwala village, was beaten to death by Nyau dancers on September 17th, 2020, after he burnt down a secret place for dancers locally known as Dambwe.

Chisoni Phiri, Andiseni Laba Phiri, Mike Phiri, Jubelo Banda and Kazunga Phiri, who is also headman Vwala, were charged with murder and the matter was before Lusaka Judge, Conceptor Chinyanwa Zulu.
